Matthew Stafford reminded everyone just how special he was last season, taking an overlooked Los Angeles Rams team to the playoffs. Since then, he’s witnessed several of his quarterback peers get paid massive amounts of money via rich contract extensions. Yet, no one came to Stafford with similar offers.

So, when it came time to begin training camp, reports surfaced of the Super Bowl champion wanting a contract adjustment, putting him in line with some of the best QBs in the NFL . Last Tuesday, the Rams gave their quarterback what he wanted with a contract adjustment, but until today, there were no reports on how his salary changed.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport , the Los Angeles Rams have agreed to pay Matthew Stafford an additional $5 million this season. They’ve also tacked on a $4 million guaranteed roster bonus, set to go in effect next season.

Stafford’s new money still trails some of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL, some of which average $55 million per season. However, he’s still raking in a lot of cash.

For the Rams, keeping their offensive leader happy was a priority, and now they shouldn’t have to worry about any tension between the front office and their star QB. This is good because the Rams’ backup plan involves 2023 fourth-round pick Stetson Bennett and former undrafted free agent Dresser Winn. Both are unproven at the NFL level.
