    On just the second day of Los Angeles Rams training camp, newly re-acquired cornerback Darious Williams suffered a strained hamstring. This forced him to miss the remaining days of practice that week. On Saturday head coach Sean McVay gave an update, confirming the injury but not clarifying the timeline for Williams’ return. He said they would be taking it ‘a few days at a time.’

    In the interim, the Rams have brought in former Detroit Lions cornerback Jerry Jacobs in the wake of William’s injury and Derion Kendrick’s torn ACL . This has created a need at the position, to ensure the others in the room don’t take on additional workload, thereby increasing their risk for injury.

    Currently, the Rams are taking a wait-and-see approach to Williams’s status;

    “It’s nothing that’s going to dictate any change in status other than continuing to monitor him.” McVay said.

    The uncertainty is based on the nature of hamstring issues being hard to judge if healthy.

    “It can be really tricky. We are definitely not going to rush him back.” McVay said, “Here’s the good thing you know we’re about 40 plus days out from being able to play Detroit or when he did it it was 44 days you know so a little over six weeks. And that’s a good thing but hopefully we’ll just take it a little bit at a time. I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves because you get an idea once you start to really get into some of the rehab processes, how is he feeling get him out here on the grass being able to run but in the meantime we will be smart with him.”

    McVay was asked by Sarah Barshop of ESPN what the Rams had learned from Cooper Kupp ‘s struggle to get his hamstring healthy.

    “It taught us is that the foundations are really important to be able to set and that’s why it’s going to be important for us to reset Darious, his foundation. He’s a guy that’s always taking great care of his body sometimes these are freak accidents when you do rush guys back in.”

    Darious Williams is heading into his seventh season in the league and turned 31 years old earlier this year. Williams has not missed a game due to injury since 2021 when he missed three weeks due to an ankle injury.

    Williams seemed to be the front-runner to earn the starting outside cornerback spot opposite Tre’Davious White .
