UCLA Bruins head coach, DeShaun Foster was hired to change the culture of the school’s football culture. One of the biggest moves in doing so was adding long-time NFL offensive coordinator and former NFL running back, Eric Bieniemy.

Bieniemy’s expertise at the job will undoubtedly help UCLA Football win games, but according to Foster, he also frees him up to focus on being a first-time head coach .

“Being a first-time head coach, I shouldn’t have to micromanage my offensive coordinator. Hiring Eric Bieniemy, I know I’m not going to have to do that.” Foster said, “That’s somebody that can command the room. The players are going to play for him. They’re going to respect him. He’s proven in the NFL . And there’s nothing more than having a guy that’s played where you want to get to and also was coaching there just recently.”

Bieniemy was the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders. Previously, he served in the same position with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he won two Super Bowl Championships. One of his first coaching jobs was with the UCLA Bruins as a running backs coach from 2003-2005, before making the jump to the NFL.

The 55-year-old also played running back in the NFL from 1991 to 1999 for the San Diego Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles. His career 3940 yards rushing and 41 touchdowns still leads the Colorado Buffaloes. His 1628 yards in 1990 is still the third-biggest producing year for any Buffalo rusher. That year he also scored four touchdowns against Nebraska.

The UCLA Bruins will kick off their 2024 season against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors on August 31st in Honolulu.
