As the old saying goes, you can take the boy out of Minnesota, but you can take the Minnesota out of the boy. Los Angeles Charger s first-round draft pick was asked on his recent appearance on the Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams what the hardest thing about adjusting to Los Angeles has been.

In true midwesterner fashion, he named traffic and the higher cost of living as the biggest differences. But he did note that So. Cal’s life isn’t without its benefits.

“Yeah, getting used to the prices of everything and living and, you know, transportation and whatnot is a little bit different. You know, I’m used to five miles taking five minutes, not, you know, 25 to 30 minutes, so getting used to that kind of stuff. But, you know, you can’t complain about that. It’s beautiful LA and what a better spot to be in.”

Oh, I think it’s not one [expense] for me. Rent was a little bit, that was a little interesting. I wasn’t expecting that, you know, coming from the Midwest, it was like, whoa, a little bit more than I was expecting. But you’re paying for what you get to see. You get oceans on one side and not on the other side. So you can’t really ask for a better, you know, geographical.

Interestingly enough, Alt’s hometown of North Oaks, MN boasts a shockingly high median rental price of $4900, per Zillow, while LA’s is just $2700. But South Bend, Indiana’s median is less than half of LA’s at a scant $1300.

But if you have ever met a Middle American who isn’t shocked by California’s high prices you’ve met an anomaly. If his bonafide were in question, he even throws in a little Minnesota nice referring to the cost as “a little interesting.”

She went on to ask if he had seen the price of eggs lately, to which he admitted that he had eaten most of his meals through the Chargers team facilities.

Adams was quick to point out that Joe Alt just signed a contract with the Chargers containing a signing bonus of $20.9 million just over a month ago.

This caused Alt to turn a bit pink. Like any good Minnesota boy would.
