The Los Angeles Rams and Genius Sports have partnered to enhance the in-stadium experience for fans at SoFi Stadium. By incorporating NFL Next Gen Stats (NGS) data and Genius Sports’ machine learning and AI technology, the Rams are providing fans with real-time replays and highlights that feature player tracking, identification, and speed data.

The aim is to create a more engaging and immersive experience for fans attending games at SoFi Stadium. The goal is to rival or even surpass the at-home experience, which often includes advanced features like those seen on Amazon’s Prime Vision and CBS’s RomoVision.

“The arena goes from ‘The Arena’ to your digital ecosystem that you spend your day-to-day life in,” Manny Puentes, GM of Advertising at Genius Sports said. “The arena is a global arena.”

“We program a robust and diverse experience for those five hours, from gates opening to gates closing, to support and enhance the football that’s taking place on the field,” said Sarah Schuler, the Rams’ VP of Game Presentation. “But it’s that next level of near-real-time [data] with things like speed leaders, route trees, and time-to-throw that’s giving you that info before you knew you needed it [that] rivals, if not beats, the at-home experience, and that’s the goal.”

By leveraging data-driven insights and innovative technology, the Rams and Genius Sports are working to bridge the gap between the in-stadium and at-home viewing experiences. This collaboration is part of a broader trend in the sports industry, as teams and leagues seek to provide fans with more engaging and personalized experiences.

Genius Sports offered the Los Angeles Rams a package of advanced statistics that could be integrated into replays almost instantly. This technology allows for the visualization of player movements, speeds, and other performance metrics in real time.

“Instead of looking to some other location or digging in your phone or trying to understand sort of the immediacy of what you just saw, we display that within seconds of that actual play taking place,” Schuler said.
