The Los Angeles Dodgers made more than $1 billion in contract commitments to offseason acquisitions like Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernandez, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto this past winter. While the current Dodgers roster is focused on trying to win the World Series, there are already MLB rumors about Los Angeles weeks out from free agency.

The Dodgers are at risk of losing multiple players to the open market this offseason, including Jack Flaherty and Walker Buehler. Pitching is viewed as far and away the club’s biggest need this winter, but the talent pool in MLB free agency is deep at multiple positions.

Amid all the focus on the likes of Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes, and Alex Bregman and their potential earning power on the open market, one of the other top MLB free agents in 2025 seems to be on the Dodgers’ radar right now.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post writes that people around baseball view the Dodgers as “a possible favorite” to land All-Star shortstop Willy Adames in MLB free agency.

Adames has long been sought-after by the Dodgers front office, routinely linked to the club in MLB trade rumors. The interest stems from history, with executives Andrew Friedman and Brandon Gomes having known Adames since he came up in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

The 29-year-old shortstop offers the ability to play third base, but he would likely stick at short in Los Angeles and bat in the heart of the Dodgers lineup next season behind Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. However, Los Angeles will likely face strong competition from the San Francisco Giants.

Considering the Dodgers’ willingness to spend, the organization’s history with Adames and its ability to offer him a chance to compete for the World Series, Los Angeles should be considered the favorites to land him in free agency.
