Fairhope artist creates world’s largest hot dog sculpture

    2024-05-21

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of one of the world’s busiest corridors in Times Square sits a 65-foot-long hot dog sculpture that rises into the New York sky every day at high noon and showers unsuspecting tourists with confetti. While it may feel like the start of the wurst fever dream ever, the record-setting Big Weiner art installation in the Big Apple is the brainchild of a son of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Unofficially the world’s largest frank, the sculpture known as the “Hot Dog in the City” was birthed by Fairhope native Paul Outlaw and his partner, Jen Catron, after a total of nine months spent planning and creating the mother of all hot dogs. The duo finally unwrapped the spectacle in Times Square in late April and it will remain there through mid-June.
