LaGrange resident promoted to Special Agent in Charge at GBI

Decatur, GA (July 1, 2024) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announces the promotion of LaGrange resident Jeremy Dockins to Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the newly created GBI West Georgia Gang Task Force in Columbus, GA. SAC Dockins will be responsible for the supervision of the staff assigned to the West Georgia Gang Task Force which serves a 10-county area and conducts major investigations to include gangs, narcotics, and other serious felonies.

“Jeremy has long been committed to his work here at the GBI,” said GBI Director Chris Hosey. “Throughout his career, he has shown the hallmarks of a capable leader. He brings hard-earned experience to his new position, experience that will go on to shape our agency in the future through his new role as Special Agent in Charge of the West Georgia Gang Task Force.”

“Since joining the GBI, SAC Dockins has added tremendous value and shown his dedication in each position entrusted to him,” said GBI Investigative Division Director Cynthia Adkins. “His GBI career has included leadership roles at the Region 2 investigative office and the West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office. Now, as the Special Agent in Charge of the West Georgia Gang Task Force, Dockins’ leadership and knowledge will greatly benefit the task force as they carry out their mission to combat gang violence.”

After completing a student internship with the GBI’s Columbus regional investigative office in the summer of 2006, SAC Dockins was hired by the GBI as a special agent where he was assigned to the State Drug Task Force (SDTF) to work undercover narcotics. After SDTF was disbanded in May of 2009, SAC Dockins was assigned to the GBI’s Columbus regional investigative office where he worked as a special agent crime scene specialist until October 2016.

He then transferred to the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office (WMRDEO) in Carrollton, GA where he worked narcotics and was detached to the DEA Columbus Regional Office as a Task Force Officer until being promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the GBI’s Columbus regional investigative office in December 2019.

In December 2022, SAC Dockins transferred back to the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office as the assistant special agent in charge assisting with the supervision of the staff assigned to WMRDEO responsible for a 36-county area from Columbus, GA to Tennessee.

SAC Dockins is a P.O.S.T. certified instructor, a Use of Force instructor, a member of the GBI Special Enforcement Team, a member of the GBI Body Recovery Team, the Northern Vice President of the Georgia Narcotics Officers Association, and oversees the GBI Peer Support Team.

SAC Dockins earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from LaGrange College. He then earned a master’s degree in public safety administration from Columbus State University while attending Command College. SAC Dockins is also a graduate of the National Forensic Academy (NFA), Class 30, in Knoxville, TN through the University of Tennessee.

SAC Dockins is originally from Griffin, GA and resides in LaGrange, GA.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is comprised of four divisions: the Georgia Crime Information Center, the Crime Laboratory, the Investigative Division, and the Legal Division. The GBI has over 900 employees and a current budget of $147,482,036.
