The Richard English Waypoint Veteran Service Center on Hamilton Road will host a flag-raising ceremony on Sunday, July 14 to commemorate the opening of the veterans support facility.

The ceremony will start at 2:30 p.m. at the Veteran Transition Center at 2573 Hamilton Road in LaGrange.

Waypoint is a transformative facility dedicated to supporting veterans. The facility officially opened its doors in April with a ribbon cutting but the flag-raising ceremony will be held this weekend to fully show its readiness to serve veterans in need.

The facility is named in honor of Richard English, a U.S. military veteran and former Troup County Commissioner. English is the longest serving Commissioner in Georgia History.

The Richard English Waypoint Veteran Service Center provides a plethora of services for veterans including:

    • Safe and Supportive Accommodations: The center provides safe and secure living quarters for veterans, ensuring they have a stable and supportive environment as they transition to civilian life. The plans include opening 10 beds by fall of 2024.
    • Comprehensive Support Services: From case management and counseling to job placement assistance and educational resources, the center offers a wide range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of each veteran.
    • Community Integration Programs: The center fosters a sense of community among residents, providing opportunities for veterans to connect with peers, engage in recreational activities and participate in community events.
    • Holistic Wellness Initiatives: Through partnerships with local healthcare providers and wellness experts, the center will offer access to healthcare services, mental health support and wellness programs designed to promote holistic well-being.
    • Employment and Skills Training: The center is committed to helping veterans achieve financial independence through vocational training, job readiness workshops and employment placement assistance.
