For most kids, summer camp means swimming, campfires or maybe getting better at a sport, but for the next potential Bill Gates or Elon Musk, it’s all about business.

Kids Preneurship is an ongoing entrepreneurship camp started by local businesswoman Tiffani Bray. The camp is being held at the William Griggs Center throughout the week to teach young people how to run a successful business.

Bray said most of the kids in the program, 20 of the 25, have already created their own small business. The kids have started businesses ranging from cutting grass to creating jewelry.

For those who have already started, Bray says she and guest instructors will help the kids properly structure their new business and help them learn what comes with entrepreneurship. The others have ideas for businesses and they will show them how to get started.

This isn’t the first camp for Bray who has been working with kids since 2012. Bray has made a name for herself with her photography business and has run photography camps in the past.

“Last year I saw the need for photography entrepreneurship, kids that wanted to start their [photography] business and there are other kids that have businesses here,” Bray said. “Our community is in great need of helping kids find their successful pathways.”

We’re going to have people come out and teach the kids marketing and branding. They’re going to design their logos and make business cards. By the end of the week they will have a business plan, Bray said.

The camp will run through the week until  July 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bray said the week will close with a “Shark Tank” style competition where the campers will vie for funding for the new business.

“They’re going to pitch their business plan and they have a chance to win a $250 check,” Bray said.

The camp has a wide range of participants from nine to 17 years old from Troup and surrounding counties. Bray said they have kids coming from Chambers and Carroll County too.

The camp is free of charge for the kids thanks to generous local sponsorships.

Bray says she hopes to keep it going, meeting with the participants each month to help ensure their success.

“We will meet twice a month, once virtually, and once in person to continue being a resource for kids in LaGrange,” Bray said.

On Nov. 4, the participants will host a Kids Expo where the young entrepreneurs will sell their products and services they offer.
