LaGrange, Ga. August 2, 20 24 – The LaGrange Police Department will be implementing automated speed enforcement cameras in several school zones beginning Friday, August 2 nd .

“A significant number of motorists continue to drive well above the speed limit in school zones threatening the safety of our young people,” said LPD Chief Garrett Fiveash. “Statistics show that the use of these cameras will help us improve student safety and reduce accidents in these areas when school is in session.”

The speed enforcement cameras will only be in operation on days that schools are in session, at the beginning and the end of the school day, to help improve traffic safety during those times. Tickets will not be issued when school is not in session, on school holidays, on inclement weather days, or on digital learning days.

The following schools will have speed enforcement cameras installed: Berta Weathersbee School, Clearview Elementary, Franklin Forest Elementary, Gardner Newman Middle School, Hollis Hand Elementary School, Troup High School and LaGrange High School.

Before the schools were considered for a speed camera, LPD conducted a thorough speed study to determine the number of vehicles traveling above the posted speed limit by at least 10 miles an hour.
