34-year-old pitcher Anthony Gose is now a free agent. He chose this route versus going down to the minors in Triple-A Columbus. Gose was designated for assignment by the Cleveland Guardians for the second time earlier this week. Gose has had his struggles as a pitcher for Cleveland this season. He struggled in his only appearance of the season against the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 7th. He gave up two runs on two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings, resulting in a 13.50 ERA.
Ohio man killed in alleged road rage shooting as couple detained after car bizarrely erupts in blaze
The man killed in an apparent road rage shooting in Valley View, Ohio, has been named as two people who were arrested at the scene have been released from custody. The incident happened on Thursday, August 22, on the Brecksville Road overpass above Granger Road. Police have now named the victim as 41-year-old Christopher Andexler who later died in hospital.

The JV and Varsity Volleyball teams defeated Elyria in straight sets Thursday night. The Varsity Bulldogs blocking skills were sharpened, and several Bulldogs helped the defense with their kill blocks. Maya Awad (3), Hayden Hess (2), Ava Ciehanoski (2), Jesse Simon (1) and Emily Odon (1) recorded blocks on the evening. Addie Koontz led the rest of the defense with an impressive 17 digs.

Amherst Junior High Teams Finish 1st and 2nd at Conference Preview
The Amherst Junior High cross country teams kicked off the season at the Southwestern Conference Preview Meet on Saturday, August 24th. Both teams had a strong showing. The boys placed second out of eight teams, led by Carter Banyas in third place out of 137 runners. Jackson Strawn, Phoenix Russo, Asher Hylton, and Elliott Parsons also scored for the Comets. The girls won the meet, led by Lila Woskobunik in 1st place and Olivia Ford in 2nd place. Sam Falbo finished 5th, and Grace Naro and Kinley Johnson also scored. The Comets will be back in action at the Avon Lake Early Bird Invitational on Saturday, August 31st.

Rosalie Kapalin (18th), Alaina Alflen (24th), Katherine Low (26th), Liana Del Valle (27th), Nyah Jesko (34th), Julia Fossie (35th) all placed well for the Comet Varsity in Saturday’s race. Amherst places at the invitational included Aubrey Brenot (42nd), Winter Carrell (44th), Macey Johnson (60th), Rebecca George (66th), Clara Stewart (69th), Gemma DelMonico (76th), Brooklyn Abraham (86th), Mia DelMonico (93rd), Clara Durica (104th), Leah Ilcisko (111th), Sophia Nicoletti (114th), CeCe Magers (115th), Carson Timko (119th), Audrey Ilcisko (125th), Corrinn Kinser (159th), and Abbey Barry (167th).
