Korean television is having a major moment, and there are plenty of options to choose from. Just ask Hanh Nguyen , senior editor of culture at Salon.com. She joined AirTalk , LAist 89.3's daily news program, and shared the shows she's currently watching and what she thinks about them so far.

    Love Next Door

A woman, down on her luck, reconnects with the son of her mom's close friend. Major rom-com vibes ensue.

“Because you have the time to create more depth in their characters, the audience starts to fall in love with these characters.” — Hanh Nguyen, senior editor of culture at Salon.com

When & where: The series premiered on Netflix in mid-August. Several episodes are available now and continue to be released weekly.

    Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE

A competition reality show that looks to cultivate a first-of-its-kind international K-pop girl group.

“It was an eye opening experience for me to understand how Korea became such a huge giant when it came to entertainment.” — Hanh Nguyen

When & where: All eight episodes are available on Netflix.

    A-List to Playlist

A veteran actor decides to make an album. He’s got 100 days to do it and viewers get a front-row seat to the creative process.

“Netflix gives him the money. He pulls in all of his friends and then he just tries to write songs. It's wonderfully low stakes.”  — Hanh Nguyen

When & where: All eight episodes are available on Netflix.
