Los Angeles animal shelters offer half off adoptions to combat overcrowding
Topline: About the event: During “Biggies and Meow Meows” adoption month, the fees for large dogs are $51. For kittens, the fee is just $25, and you’ll only pay $12.50 for an adult cat. Why it matters: Kennels are at more than double capacity, with 1,538 dogs in 737 cages as of Thursday morning, according to the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services. Earlier this year, shelters announced that 100 dogs would be euthanized due to overcrowding. “This is an excellent opportunity to save a life by bringing home a great new companion animal and helping to ensure there is life-saving space in the City shelters for animals with nowhere else to go,” said Bill Crowe, Director of The Paula Kent Meehan Pet Care Foundation, which is sponsoring the adoption event.
