A Zion man is facing charges after he battered his pregnant girlfriend and then caused a four-car accident when he ran a red light while fleeing police, authorities said. Felix James Jr., 22, of 1900 block of Midday Drive, was charged with aggravated battery to a pregnant woman, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and several traffic counts after the Wednesday evening incident that started in the Grayslake area.

INGLESIDE -- A McHenry man has been identified as the person who was killed July 15 when a Metra train struck a vehicle in Ingleside, authorities said. About 7:35 a.m. Monday, July 15, the Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Larkin Lane and Wilson Road in Ingleside for a vehicle crash involving a train, according to a news release.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a man who battered his pregnant girlfriend and led deputies on a vehicle chase. On July 17, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 18500 block of West Old Gages Lake Road, unincorporated Grayslake, for a domestic battery. The caller, a 43-year-old woman, reported her daughter’s boyfriend, Felix James, Jr., 22, of the 1900 block of Midday Drive, Zion, just battered her and her daughter, a 19-year-old pregnant woman. James left the residence in his Chevrolet HHR, along with his girlfriend, prior to the arrival of sheriff’s deputies.

I grew up in Lake County, Illinois, surrounded by neighborhood parks and county forest preserves. The Lake County Forest Preserve District purchased as much property (that was prone to flooding) as they could along the banks of the Des Plaines River and returned it to a wetland wonderland complete with multi-use trails. As an adult, I gladly paid a yearly fee for access to the preserves so I could ride my horse through the woods and along the river. It was heaven on Earth and I thought that every county embraced their wetlands the way Lake County did.
