The Lake County Forest Preserves District is set to enlarge its natural domain, with newly approved plans to acquire roughly 18 acres adjacent to the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve at Fort Sheridan. According to a report by the Chicago Tribune, this expansion will enhance the district's lakefront land in Highland Park and Lake Forest, creating a more continuous conservation area along the picturesque Lake Michigan shoreline.

Joseph L. Dean, a 21-year-old man from Round Lake Heights, Illinois, was sentenced to Eight Years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on July 10, 2024. Dean pled guilty to the charge of Unlawful Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, a Class 1 felony. Dean was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Mark Gerhardt.
Senator Wilcox to Host Unclaimed Property Event
State Senator Craig Wilcox (R-McHenry) is partnering with the Illinois Treasurer’s Office on July 17 to connect residents of McHenry and Lake Counties with more than $5 billion in unclaimed property and cash. From 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 17, attendees can meet with a counselor from the Treasurer’s Office at the Algonquin Township Community Building to learn if some of the unclaimed items are theirs. In addition to helping people search for property and cash, counselors can help them file claims.
