That ain't what the Bible says
Lonnie Haack’s recent letters (Feb. 22 and April 11, Leader) contain opinion and conclusions that are questionable. What is the difference between facts and opinions?“Opinion (and I quote from a Webster’s Dictionary) is belief not based on absolute certainty” vs. “fact: a thing that has actually happened or that is really true.” And what about science? It is “systemized knowledge derived from observation, study and experimentation.”Being a person of faith myself, I understand and can agree with some of Lonnie’s opinions. However, I think that current Christian pro-life opinions are misguided. Pro-life should go beyond arguments about human reproduction, fetal...

Young protestors are on the right side
A recent letter cited Israel’s founding in 1948 and the 1973 Yom Kippur War as justification for the current campaign of genocide against Palestinians. Those defending Israel’s recent actions conveniently ignore the historical plight of Palestinians prior to Oct. 7 and the excessive carnage caused by the Israeli Defense Forces. When Yitzak Rabin was assassinated in 1995 by a right-wing fanatic, it ended conversation about a two-state solution. It also accelerated Israel’s expansion of settlements into occupied territories.Progressive voices call for divesting from Israel, much like Martin Luther King leading boycotts of segregationist companies. As Israel’s Zionist policies become more extreme,...
