Former Lakeland president Wayne Rodehorst remembered; educator was 94
Dr. Wayne Rodehorst, founding president in 1967 of Lakeland Community College, died June 27 at the Rootstown home of his son, Morgan. He was 94. “Dr. Rodehorst’s contributions to Lakeland’s growth paved the way for generations of students to pursue their dreams,” said Morris Beverage Jr., the college’s recently retired president. “He and Will Kern were able to pull it together from nothing to create the only community college in the country founded and funded by the county’s voters.”
Torrential rain could flood portions of northeast Ohio on Saturday, Weather Service says
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Forecasters are bracing for heavy rain that could flood portions of northeast Ohio on Saturday. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch that extends through Saturday evening for much of the region. Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Geauga, Lake and Ashtabula counties all fall in the flood watch zone, which extends past Ohio’s eastern border into Pennsylvania.

Madison Township Trustee Kenneth Gauntner Jr. resigns
Kenneth Gauntner Jr. has resigned as a Madison Township trustee. His departure will mark the end of 50 consecutive years in which he’s worked or served in local government. Gauntner’s final day as trustee will be June 30, which is about 1 1/2 years before his current four-year term expires. He was elected as a Madison Township trustee in 2013, and then won re-election in 2017 and 2021.
