Air quality alert for Klamath and Lake counties Monday
An air quality alert was issued in effect until Monday at 5 p.m. for Klamath and Lake counties. According to the National Weather Service, "Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Pollution Advisory in effect until 5 p.m. Monday. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued an air quality advisory for southern Klamath and southern Lake counties due to smoke from the Salt Creek fire. DEQ also expects other areas of the state may see intermittent smoke from ongoing large wildfires. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather. Smoke can irritate the eyes and lungs and worsen some medical conditions. People most at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people. Keep windows and doors closed. If its too hot, run air conditioning on recirculate or consider moving to a cooler location. Avoid strenuous outdoor activity. Use high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters in indoor ventilation systems or portable air purifiers. Be aware of smoke in your area and avoid places with the highest levels. When air quality improves to moderate or healthy, open windows and doors to air out homes and businesses. If you have a breathing plan for a medical condition, be sure to follow it and keep any needed medications refilled. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather. People at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people."
BLM proposes protecting a quarter of public wild areas in southeastern Oregon
The wild sagebrush deserts of southeastern Oregon are a step closer toward additional environmental protections. The Bureau of Land Management is updating its management plan for 3.2 million acres in Lake and Harney counties, as part of a 2010 legal settlement with the nonprofit Oregon Natural Desert Association — also called ONDA. The settlement required BLM to survey its southeast Oregon land that didn’t have wilderness protections, and then map out areas that are wild and natural enough for potential protections. ...

The Klamath-Lake Forest Health Partnership presented the Ned and Marilyn Livingston Award to Lakeview resident Chuck Kelley in June. Ned and Marilyn Livingston were a driving force in the creation and development of the Klamath-Lake Forest Health Partnership in the early 90’s, and they stayed engaged in their board roles and attending meetings, even if online, until 2022. “They rejoiced in the growing successes of the KLFHP, and Ned frequently reminded us to never forget the individual landowners in all of our planning — we...

Day tripping through the Warner Valley
A friend and I took a drive from Lakeview out through Warner Valley. It was a picture-perfect day and I wanted to capture a few photos while Deep Creek is still pouring over the falls, while grass is still green, and the temperatures are not too warm. Age has made me rather picky about what I want and when I want to do it!
