Unexpected Wallaby Chase in Parkland Leads to Whimsical Police Pursuit and Safe Capture
An unexpected escape artist prompted an early morning chase in Parkland as law enforcement officials were tasked with wrangling a wallaby that had found its way onto a local road. Per The Seattle Times, the call came in around 6:40 a.m., leading Washington State Patrol troopers and Pierce County deputies to 158th Street East and B Street East. Described over the radio as having "big ears and tiny forearms," the 2½-foot-tall wallaby dodged officers before one trooper's tackling ended its brief taste of freedom.

Canlis restaurant in Seattle painted pink for Barbie-themed event
SEATTLE - Seattle's popular, upscale restaurant Canlis has painted its entire building pink, and owners say it is for a two-day Barbie-themed event coming up in August. According to the restaurant's Facebook page, Canlis will become a "Kenlis" dream house on Aug. 9 and 10, for a dance party that will benefit breast cancer research and patient care at Fred Hutch Cancer Center and Susan G. Komen.
Nonprofits to build affordable housing near Mount Baker station
More than 400 new housing units will be built near the Link Light Rail Mount Baker station, including affordable housing. The City of Seattle Office of Housing announced a partnership with Mercy Housing Northwest and El Centro de la Raza to develop these new housing units to “promote community-centered development” in the neighborhood, according to a press release.

News Bites for July 15... … Bonneville’s KIRO Seattle is celebrating 50 years of its “News Radio” format. KIRO (710) debuted a news format July 15, 1974. In 2008, the format shifted to KIRO-FM (97.3), where it remains today. The 710 signal is sports-formatted as “Seattle Sports.” To celebrate the anniversary, KIRO-FM hosted a special edition of “Seattle’s Morning News” on Monday. Bill Yeend, the first morning news anchor from 1974, returned to the station for the event and was joined by other prominent alumni. Dave Ross, a fixture at KIRO since 1978, and Ursula Reutin, who has been with the station since 1988, hosted the special broadcast.
