Reeder fire destroys 3 homes in Lake Isabella: KCFD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A vegetation fire destroyed three homes in Lake Isabella over the weekend, according to Kern County Fire Department.

On July 9th, KCFD fire crews were dispatched to a vegetation fire that engulfed two homes on Reeder Drive and Harnage Street. Strong winds caused the brush fire to spread across a field behind the homes.

KCFD evacuated residents from surrounding homes in the area. Firefighters from the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service were assigned to protect the neighborhood downwind from embers spreading across the air.

Officials said the fire was fast and hard to contain due to propane tanks, and several belongings spread in the yards and energized power lines fueling the blaze, KCFD said through a news release.

While fire crews managed to save numerous homes in the area, the aggressive fire destroyed three homes. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.

Tuesday’s fire was the second multi-structure fire in two days in the Lake Isabella area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
