TOWN OF DANE — Aidan Berg pitched a four-hitter with three strikeouts as Lakeside’s baseball team extended its win streak to nine games with a 6-1 road victory over Lodi on Friday in Capitol North play.

“Aidan was super efficient on the mound again for us,” Lakeside baseball coach Jake Ziel said. “He was in command all night and has just done an outstanding job on the bump all year for us. He is a true gamer and we feel confident every time he takes the ball.”

Cooper Brakmanis led off the game with a line-shot double to center for the Warriors (14-3, 4-1 in conference). He took third on Tyler Chopp’s sacrifice bunt and scored on a single up the middle by Nolan Meis.

“Cooper continues to be a spark for us at the top of the lineup,” Ziel said. “He scored three times today and got us going right away with a double.”

Lakeside extended its lead in the third. Brakmanis led off the frame by drawing a walk before Chopp bunted and reached on an error by the pitcher. Meis gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead with a two-run double to left and then came around on Logan Schwab’s sac fly.

Chopp plated a pair of insurance runs with a two-out single in the sixth for the final margin.

“Offensively, we executed well tonight,” Ziel said. “We bunted when we needed to, we drove in runs when we needed to and we made their pitchers work.

“We are playing solid baseball right now and definitely have room for improvement, and that to me is really exciting.”

THURSDAY’S RESULTLogan Schwab scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning as Lakeside’s baseball team edged visiting Belleville 4-3 in nonconference play on Thursday, May 9.

Lakeside (13-3), which surrendered three first-inning runs, clawed within 3-2 on Cooper Brakmanis’ sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Thomas Dwyer singled with one away in the Warriors’ fifth and came around to tie it up on Schwab’s fly ball double down the left field line. Schwab took third on the throw and scored on a two-out wild pitch for the final margin.

“Logan had the big hit for us today, but his baserunning on the play was outstanding,” Lakeside baseball coach Jake Ziel said. “We had chances most of the game, but left a bunch of guys on in scoring position.”

Lakeside starter Matthew Krueger earned the decision. He pitched 6 2/3 effective innings, allowing two earned on three hits with two strikeouts. Krueger stranded Devin Frydenlund after his one-out double in the sixth. Aidan Berg entered for the final out of the seventh and got Isaac McKinley to fly out on the infield with the tying run at first base to end it.

“I cannot say enough about the job Matthew has done,” Ziel said. “He battled command early and gave up the three runs, but tossed scoreless innings with one hit allowed the rest of the way. He has given us a lot of innings this year and has done so in an efficient way.”
