    Baseball: Lake Mills splits twin bill with Belleville, tops Marshall 12-7

    The Lake Mills baseball team finished the regular season by splitting a nonconference doubleheader versus Belleville at Campus Field on Saturday.

    The L-Cats (13-13) lost 8-6 in eight innings, only to bounce back with a three-run rally in the seventh to squeak out a 3-2 win in game two.

    In game one, Alex Parys singled home a pair of Lake Mills runs in the second inning. Brody Henderson added an RBI single to make it 3-0.

    Henderson hit a two-run shot to center field with two outs in the sixth to give Lake Mills a 6-3 edge.

    Belleville’s Niles Monroe singled home a run in the seventh, then scored the tying run on Isaac McKinley fielder’s choice.

    The Wildcats did two-out damage in the eighth. Brennan Keyes singled and scored the go-ahead run on Monroe’s triple. Devin Frydenlund, who homered earlier in the game, added an RBI single before the L-Cats went down in order in the eighth.

    Ace Everson struck out nine over five innings of four-hit ball, allowing three runs. Reliever Hunter Frohmader, who allowed five earned on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings, took the loss.

    The L-Cats, after Frydenlund hit a two-run blast in the fourth, rallied with two outs in the seventh. Max Stelter and Mason Flood singled before Nolan Kolkovich’s walk loaded the bases. McKinley’s error at third base plated a run and then Parys dug in, singling in a pair of runs to give the L-Cats a 3-2 lead.

    Kolkovich pitched the seventh, stranding the tying run at third base to earn the save. Ty Schaefer started and earned the win. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits over six innings and struck out seven.

    FRIDAY’S RESULTThe L-Cats scored eight runs in the fifth inning, charging past Marshall 12-7 in nonconference play at Campus Field on Friday.

    Winning pitcher Wyatt Werner singled home a run in the fifth to make it 6-all. The L-Cats added five more runs, including on RBI singles by Max Stelter, Jack Vogel and Brody Henderson.

    Werner had three hits and Henderson added two base knocks.

    Werner pitched four innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits in four innings.

    Lake Mills is the eighth seed in its Division 2 playoff bracket and hosts ninth-seeded Stoughton in a regional quarterfinal on Thursday at 5 p.m.
