LAKE MILLS — Lakeside Lutheran High School begins its 67th year this month with freshman orientation for 147 freshmen on Friday, August 16. Freshmen traditionally begin the school year a day early to orient and learn schedules, meet teachers and peers, and explore co-curricular opportunities. Classes begin on campus for 553 students on Monday, August 19, a 3.9% increase from the ending enrollment last May.

An opening service and teacher installation will take place as part of the first day’s events on August 19 at 8:15 a.m. in the west gymnasium. Pastor Kevin Hundley who serves both St. John Lutheran Church, Newville, and Hope in Deerfield, will provide the devotion during this special chapel service and the principal, Pastor Don Schultz, as liturgist. The theme for the school year is “Impressed,” a reminder of Deuteronomy 6:5-7: “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” This biennial theme remains a focus in devotions and other events throughout the school year. In addition to new teacher installations, two men who have reached milestone years in ministry will be recognized, including Mr. Dennis Leckwee, 25 years, and Mr. Tim Matthies, 40 years.

Six new full-time faculty are joining the staff. Mr. Andy Hillmann will teach English and serve as the varsity girls soccer assistant and football assistant coach. Mr. Caleb Kasper will teach Industrial Arts courses. Ms. Emily Muir will teach biology, be the head varsity girls soccer coach and be the cross country assistant coach. Mrs. Jessie Schroeder will be the Extended Learning Center Instructional Aide. Mrs. Jenny Statz will be the new Assistant Director of Student Services. Mr. Bill Tomlin will teach English and serve as the girls basketball assistant and JV boys golf coach. Two part-time faculty members are also serving, for a total of 43 faculty. Mrs. Amanda Bosnak will teach Earth and Environmental Science and Foods 2, as well as serve as the FFA advisor. Mrs. Christin Leckwee will teach Anatomy and be the spring musical assistant.
