Girls tennis: Lake Mills beats Big Foot 5-2 in season opener

The Lake Mills girls tennis team opened the season with a 5-2 nonconference home victory over Big Foot on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

The L-Cats swept doubles competition, including the No. 1 flight where Kristina Thomas and Grace Ninneman won 6-0, 6-0. Nina Sehmer and Violet Thompson added a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 flight.

In singles, the L-Cats' Emma Silva (No. 3 flight) won 6-4, 6-2 while Skylar Raatz (No. 4 flight) was a 6-2, 6-4 winner.

Lake Mills' Mollie Cooper fell to Easton Gregory 4-6, 7-6 (7), 10-7 at the No. 1 flight.

"This was a great start to the season," Lake Mills girls tennis coach Amanda Curtis said. "We have a lot of new girls on varsity and they are working very hard. It was great to see 1 and 2 doubles come away with big wins."
