Senior midfielder Will Silva and junior forward Jeremy Lutes both scored as Lake Mills topped visiting Heritage Christian 2-1 in nonconference boys soccer on Monday.

Silva scored in the third minute on senior Isaac Kruschek’s assist for the L-Cats (6-9-1).

The Patriots (7-3-4) equalized in the 35th minute on Isaac Ennis’ unassisted goal.

Lutes netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 62nd minute. Junior forward Daniel Almeida was credited with the assist.

Lake Mills freshman goalie Eli McHenry made six saves.

“What a great team win,” Lake Mills boys soccer coach Josh Vinluan said. “We played with heart and passion and as a family. If we didn’t win the first ball, we won the second. Great 1-2’s all over the field.

“Our midfielders played so well today connecting with each other. Lutes continues to score, finishing a great shot from Daniel. Will scored off of a beautiful assist from Isaac. We might just be finding our stride getting this close to the postseason.”
