Introducing Abigail Leavins

Hi everyone! My name is Abigail Leavins and I am excited to join the staff of Lake Mills Leader, Waterloo-Marshall Courier, and Cambridge News and Deerfield Independent as a reporter.

I will be working out of Lake Mills covering community, government, and schools in Lake Mills, Waterloo and Cambridge — so you can definitely say hi if you see me out reporting or at a community event!

I just graduated from UW-Madison with a journalism degree this May. While I was there I worked at the Badger Herald student newspaper, and interned for several Madison publications in both print, radio and TV.

Journalism has been my passion since my freshman year of college, and I am particularly interested in telling stories about people — whether it’s stories of how new decisions or developments affect people, people who are making a difference, or just people coming together — I’m excited to get to know the people of Lake Mills, Cambridge and Waterloo.

When I’m not reporting, I enjoy running, reading, listening to music, cooking with friends, going on a super long walk or pretending I’m good at pickleball or painting.

I’m new to this part of Wisconsin so please share recommendations of the best places to check out! I have already fallen in love with the small town feel so I’m looking forward to many adventures around these cities.
