LAKE MILLS — Thousands of people gathered on Main Street for the annual Town and Country Days parade on June 29.

Over 50 groups entered the parade, which lasted nearly one-and-a-half hours.

Police cars, fire trucks and ambulances led the parade followed by a tow truck. Jerzey Junction ice cream then followed with a sign announcing its opening in Lake Mills.

Several school groups joined the parade with music or signs. St Paul Lutheran Church and School passed in a tractor announcing a Vacation Bible School at the end of July. The Lake Mills high school band performed music for everyone watching. And Lake Mills middle school and high school wrestling joined the parade.

The high school wasn’t the only music in the parade. The Yankee Veteran band, Gary Beal polka band, the Lake Mills city band, UW-Madison band and Lutheran vanguard band performed in the parade.

Some stand out floats included the Milwaukee Brewers mascots walking around and high fiving parade watchers and the Wisconsin Wheelmen, an international nonprofit organization, biked through on old bikes. There was a castle float with a king and queen announcing Gemuetlichkeit Days in Jefferson in September. Additionally, the Cripple Creek Cloggers entertained the crowd with tap dancing on their moving float.

Additional features in the parade were a series of old cars by Cliff Topel, the Southside Eagles 4 H club, which is one of the oldest clubs in Jefferson County, and many, many tractors.
