Daydream Believer offering weekly author events

LAKE MILLS — For the first year, Daydream Believer Books and Gifts is hosting local authors every Friday this summer.

Tamara Kowalski, a manager at Daydream Believer, said the store has been open for three years and they wanted to expand by offering more book events. They had hosted authors at a book fair in December and the community was interested to come and meet authors.

After this, Kowalski said they wanted to provide more opportunities in Lake Mills to meet authors, and to have a consistent book event. She said this event took off almost immediately with authors booked through the end of the summer.

“It’s overwhelming how much talent there is in Wisconsin,” Kowalski said.

Kowalski said they have brought in old authors who already have a following in Lake Mills, like Maggie Ginsberg. But a few authors, including Nina Bricko, have had their debut at Daydream Believer.

Since Daydream Believer opened, Kowalski said they have progressively brought in more offerings. They’ve added a children’s section and a local author bookshelf. They started a book club last year, and had the first teen book club last week.

“It’s so cool to see the connections that are made through a bookstore,” Kowalski said.

Kowalski said she’s noticed that Daydream Believer is a big stop for friend reunions. There is a group of friends from surrounding areas that comes in regularly on Wednesday mornings. Additionally, the bookstore has hosted big one time events like an Alice in Wonderland tea party for Valentine’s Day and a Harry Potter for Halloweeen.

Daydream Believer plans to continue author events every Friday throughout the rest of the summer, and will likely book for authors for the fall because of the high demand. They already have authors scheduled till the end of August.
