The Virginia Department of Education will host eight “Commonwealth Conversations” with parents, educators and community members on cellphone-free education. This comes after Gov. Youngkin issued an executive order last week directing the Department of Education to draft guidance for public school divisions to adopt local policies and procedures establishing a “cellphone-free education” in Virginia. The executive order mandates Virginia public school divisions establish a cellphone-free education by Jan. 1 of next year.

Showers are expected this afternoon into this evening. Rumbles of thunder will also be possible. Temperatures will be much cooler this afternoon, and eventually humidity levels will lower by tonight. ‘There’s life after incarceration’ for Charlottesville youth
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Second Chancer Foundation is working to bring more resources to incarcerated youth at the Blue Ridge Detention Center. Thursday, July 18, community organizations set up inside the detention center to connect for a couple hours. Organizations like PVCC, Ready Kids, Home to Hope, and The Fountain Fund joined in. The goal is to help youth know what resources are available to help when they get out.
