Duluth settles suit with couple that alleges racism by police department
The Duluth City Council has agreed to pay $135,000 to a couple to settle allegations of racism by police. Aaron Kirk, who’s Black, and his wife Amy, who’s white, say that starting in 2007, two neighbors called police dozens of times and made false complaints about everything from meth cooking to child abuse and that police failed to investigate the neighbors.
Shooting and archery range coming to Cook County
Almost every county in Minnesota has an established shooting and archery range. One that doesn’t? Cook County. Far northeastern Minnesota is one of just a few areas in the state without a gun or archery range. But that’s soon to change with the opening of Flintlock Range, a shooting and archery range that’s being developed north of Grand Marais. With a tentative opening later this year, Flintlock Range will provide Cook County’s first established location for target practice and education.

Milking procedures laid out for dairy cows at State Fair. Officials at the Wisconsin State Fair are taking extra precautions in light of the national outbreak of avian influenza. While the state fair's milkhouse will be operational throughout the fair, exhibitors of lactating cattle have the option of bringing their own milking claws, provided the exhibitor's tubing fits. The staff will sanitize milking units between cows using chlorinated water solution. Portable milking units will not be permitted.

City clerk explains what to expect with drop boxes, primary ballots
Following a state Supreme Court ruling this month, city, town and village clerks are preparing to reopen ballot drop boxes for the upcoming election season. But not all clerks are prepared to host drop boxes in their area for the August partisan primary election, according to Elena Hilby, city of Sun Prairie clerk and vice president of the Wisconsin Municipal Clerks Association.
