Council OK's tougher homeless stance; tents coming down
Residents of tent encampments sandwiched between city, county and federal buildings in downtown Duluth have been put on notice to leave. The Duluth Police Department said Tuesday morning those at the encampment were given notice to vacate the area and remove their belongings. In the month of July, there have been 138 calls for service at Priley Circle, Duluth Police said in a Tuesday afternoon news release. Those include an explosion, an overdose and additional behavioral health calls. To wait longer could cause serious health and safety risks for occupants, adjacent employees, and the general public.

Victims identified in fatal crash
Authorities have identified the two Bay Area victims from the fatal car crash Saturday night in Douglas County. Ariel Lee Pierre, 27, of Ashland, and Bridget Rose Pierre, 28, of Bayfield, died Saturday night in a single-vehicle accident around 8:30 p.m. near Lake Nebagamon. According to a release from Wisconsin State Patrol Spooner Post, they were southbound on Highway H near Lake Nebagamon when the driver lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree south of Koho Road. When first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered the both occupants were killed in the crash. Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors, according to the release, which remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Dairy shows remain ‘status quo’ at Wisconsin State Fair despite additional hurdles of avian flu
A team of around 10 veterinarians will help check-in the cattle and other show animals coming to the Wisconsin State Fair this week. Veterinary superintendent Dr. Tia Kastenson said the process will look mostly the same as it does every year, with animals coming off trailers and being settled into barns before the West Allis fairground fills with hundreds of thousands of people.
