"For six years, at any time within 24 hours, we could be called up and go to Vietnam," Schmit, who served from 1966 to 1972, said. "I think the only reason our group did not end up there was basically that Wisconsin needed to know that there were protections here in case we had civil disorder again."

FALL CREEK, Wis. (WEAU) - The federal government announced thousands of dollars coming to northwest Wisconsin as part of a program to help rural communities. Dr. Basil Gooden, U.S. Department of Agriculture Under Secretary of Rural Development, visited Beaver Creek Reserve to announce a $70,000 investment for the West Central Regional Planning Commission to help showcase outdoor recreation in the area.
