Annual SHOES Event Offering Free Athletic Shoes to Local Kids in Kent County
In The Image to provide a free pair of athletic shoes and promote healthy lifestyle choices to local kids. In The Image, a local nonprofit organization, will soon host the 28th year of its annual SHOES (Shoes Help Our Elementary Students) program. As in years prior, the organization will provide over 4,100 Kent County children with a brand-new pair of shoes while also connecting families with healthy lifestyle resources, including free vision screenings and local organizations to help families kick-start the school year on the right foot.

Multi-township police chase through Mid-Michigan ends in two arrests
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan State Police (MSP) are investigating a multi-township car chase that ended with two people arrested overnight. At 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, MSP said it began in Meridian Township on Jolly Road, where they were chasing a car but stopped the pursuit due to police policy. The car eventually ended up in Lansing, where troopers again attempted to stop it but were unable to.

Severe storms bring more heavy rain to West Michigan
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Severe thunderstorms racing across West Michigan late Monday night and early Tuesday morning created vivid lightning and dropped more heavy rain on already saturated ground. The storms first moved onto the Lake Michigan shoreline around 11 p.m. Monday and moved steadily eastward until clearing the area by 3 a.m. Tuesday. Doppler radar estimated rainfall showed the heaviest precipitation fell in an east to west stripe that roughly followed I-94 where between 2.5" and 4.0" of rain may have fallen.
