Join the students of Lake Oswego Junior High School for their musical “Once Upon a Mattress: Youth Edition.”

A musical interpretation of the fairytale, “The Princess and the Pea,” the play tells the tale of a kingdom where no one may marry until Prince Dauntless has, despite his mother believing that nobody is good enough for her son. The queen is no match for Princess Winnifred, who charms the kingdom and faces the queen’s test of sensitivity: Can she feel a pea beneath 20 mattresses?

“This show has been a joy to direct. It has a little bit of everything including many sweet, fun and goofy moments,” said Danielle Pecoff, the show’s director.

“Once Upon a Mattress: Youth Edition” opens at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, and runs again at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9 and at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10.

The production features more than 50 students in the cast and crew.

“Once Upon a Mattress” will be the final musical performed in the LOJ auditorium before construction begins on the replacement middle school next school year. The building originally opened in 1956.

“Come help us give our much-beloved stage a proper send-off this year,” said Pecoff. “In honor of this being our last musical in this building, we have been including a number of Easter egg surprises from previous shows.”

Tickets for “Once Upon a Mattress” are $10 and can be purchased online at: https://www.onthestage.tickets/show/lake-oswego-junior-high/6598709928ae877bc68addc9.
