Gates and Opferman named Lakeridge High School Athlete of the Week for Feb. 7

Gates is a sophomore on the Lakeridge High School varsity wrestling team, and Opferman is a senior on the varsity wrestling team.

Bringing their grit and determination to Pacers wrestling, athletes Alaina Gates and Nolan Opferman have been named Lakeridge High School’s athletes of the week for the week of February 7th.

Gates, a sophomore on the varsity wrestling team, made team history, becoming the first Pacer to place at a tournament since 2018. She went 3-2 and placed 8th at the prestigious and largest ever Pac Coast Wrestling Tournament. “[Gates’s] consistency, drive, and determination make working with [her] a blast,” her coach said.

Competing at 132 lbs., senior Opferman has grown as a lader for the team, and, according to his coach, has been a big reason for the overall improvement of the Pacers wrestling program. “[Opferman] has taken huge steps after being the only Pacer to attend the state meet last year,” his coach said. “So far he is leading the team in wins, pins, total points, and most importantly, crazy where-did-that-come-from moves.”
