OPINION: Chick-fil-A not a good fit for Lake Oswego site

Chick-fil-A not a good fit for Lake Oswego site

Do you like the look and feel of Lake Oswego as you enter our city on Kruse Way? All that would be degraded if a proposed Chick-fil-A at 14801 Kruse Oaks Drive in Lake Oswego is approved. Use of the former site of Stanford’s for a fast-food restaurant would negatively change the look and feel of that intersection with Kruse Way and be completely out-of-sync with the area, which serves as a primary gateway to beautiful Lake Oswego. Is that really how the city wants to welcome people? It would also be incompatible with other uses of the area, which are primarily offices and sit-down restaurants. In addition, it would generate substantial additional in-and-out traffic from Kruse Way, which can already get backed up. Chick-fil-A restaurants average $8 million a year in sales. As such, the chain’s restaurants are among the busiest in the country. A business publication recently noted that Chick-fil-A’s snaking drive-thru lines, which frequently spill into city streets, are notorious throughout the US. I earnestly hope the city does not approve the proposed Chick-fil-A at this site.
