Lakeridge High School celebrates Lunar New Year

Lakeridge High School welcomed the Year of the Dragon on Saturday, Feb. 10 during the Lunar New Year Festival organized by the Lakeridge Asian American and Pacific Islander Student Union.

The smell of food and the sound of music drew guests to Lakeridge High School's cafeteria and senior commons, where vendors showed prospective customers their wares while students sold desserts, boba, scallion pancakes and dumplings. Craft activities included learning calligraphy and Mahjong. While community members examined handmade ceramics, they enjoyed music performed by Lakeridge students.

At 3 p.m., guests moved to the lower gymnasium for music and dance performances by a variety of guest organizations including the Jade Dance Team, Mulan Drum Team and Portland Chinese Dance Troupe.
