Kim and Zhang named Lake Oswego Athletes of the Week for Feb. 21

Kim is a senior on the Lake Oswego boys’ varsity swim team, and Zhang is a freshman on the girls’ varsity swim team.

Bringing their skill and determination to Lakers swim teams, athletes Minsong Kim and Yahan Zhang have been named Lake Oswego High School’s Athletes of the Week for the week of February 21st.

Competing in the 200-medley relay (fly), 200 free relay, 50 free and the 100 breaststroke for the boys’ varsity swim team, senior Kim led his relay teams to two state-qualified finishes, won the 50 freestyle with a time fo 21.20, and was second in the 100 breast, qualifying in all swims for the state meet. According to his coach, “[Kim] is always positive and motivated for his own personal success as well as his teammates.”

Competing in the 200-medley relay (breast), 200 free relay, 200 IM and 100 breast for the girls’ varsity swim team, freshman Zhang has made a strong impact on her team at districts by being on two state qualifying relays, as well as qualifying her 100 breaststroke for the state meet. According to her coach, “[Zhang] was 10th in the 200 IM and the highest placing freshman in the Three Rivers League in her events.”
