Lopez and Vlaic named Lake Oswego Athletes of the Week for Feb. 28

Lopez is a junior on the Lakers’ varsity wrestling team, and Vlaic is a junior on the girls’ varsity swim team.

Competing for the Lakers in wrestling and swim, this week’s athletes have been bringing their hard work and exceptional skill in their sports. Lusiano Lopez and AnneMarie Vlaic have been named Lake Oswego High School’s Athletes of the Week for the week of February 28th.

Lopez, a junior competing in the 215 lbs. weight class for the Lakers’ varsity wrestling team, dominated his bracket this year, winning the OSAA 6A State Wrestling Championships. “[Lopez] is hard working, determined, and an overall leader. There is no one more dedicated to the sport,” his coach said. “He had come a long way as a student in addition to being an athlete. He encourages his teammates to work hard and push through their toughest moments.”

Vlaic, a junior on the girls’ varsity swim team, also have an exceptional showing at the OSAA 6A State Championships, winning first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.76. She also won the 500-yard freestyle by pulling away late to win in a time of 4:57.15. Her strong effort in the pool helped the Lakers to a 12th-place team finish overall.
