A second-hand clothing company focusing on athleisure aims to make Lake Oswego customers feel a bit better about their purchases.

Portland-based Revive Athletics opened a second location at 333 S State Street in Lake Oswego in late 2023.

Owner Laura Halley considered herself a shopaholic but didn’t become fully cognizant of the detrimental impact the fashion industry can have on the environment until reading the book “Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion and the Future of Clothes.”

She began secondhand shopping more frequently as a way to reduce her impact on the environment, but couldn’t find the exact shopping experience she was looking for — curated items with athleisure options. That’s where Revive Athletics was born.

“People are really excited to have a place to sell activewear and athleisure because no one else is doing this. This concept is unique. People often would get turned away at other stores because it’s not a category other stores focus on,” she said.

Revive only accepts clothing, such as joggers, hoodies, shirts and shorts, that have been gently used and are generally less than five years old.

“We only buy things that are of high quality and specific brands. And the way it is arranged provides a better shopping experience. It has a more boutique feel than a traditional thrift store,” Halley said.

Halley felt that the Lake Oswego area was a suitable location for Revive because of the prevalence of boutique fitness and demographics. And she said the community has been supportive so far.

“We love being part of the community. Everyone has been very welcoming. Word of mouth is very strong in Lake Oswego and everyone has been helping us to spread the word,” Halley said.
