Huettemeyer and Sly named Lakeridge High School Athletes of the Week for Mar. 6

Huettemeyer is a sophomore on the Lakeridge girls’ varsity swim team, and Sly is a junior on the varsity wrestling team.

Bringing success to the Pacers in both the pool and on the wrestling mat, sophomore Helena Huettemeyer and junior Alex Sly have been named Lakeridge High School’s Athletes of the Week for the week of March 6th.

Competing for the Pacers’ girls’ varsity swim team, Huettemeyer finished second in the 100-year breastroke this year at the OSAA 6A State Swimming Championships. She was part of the Pacer’s first-place 200-yard medley relay and she swam a leg on the team’s first-place 400 yard freestyle relay team, an event where the Pacers shaved more than six seconds off their preliminary time and setting a school record of 3:33:30.

Competing in the 175 lbs. weight class on the varsity wrestling team, Sly finished the season by upsetting the #1 and the #2 seeds at districts to win the Three Rivers League District Tournament. According to his coach, “He has taken huge leaps in his two seasons of wrestling. He is always working to make improvements and doing all the little things that it takes to be great.”
