Following decades in the real estate industry, Kevin Hanna started his own mortgage brokerage in Lake Oswego — Lions Capital Mortgage — last year.

There, he helps clients assess their financial situation and learn how they can establish financing for a new home. Hanna works with clients in Lake Oswego and the broader Pacific Northwest

“We try to understand everyone’s unique situation and meet them at where their financing goals are,” Hanna said.

Hanna, who was born and raised in Lake Oswego, worked for Director’s Mortgage and then was the northwest president of Churchill Mortgage before establishing his company. He said he wanted to remove himself from corporate politics and the quest to move up the ladder, instead keeping his focus on serving the local community.

Now, with interest rates higher than they have been in recent decades, he tries to help find ways to save customers money as they embark on the homebuying process. Hanna works with clients focused on residential mortgage lending, reverse mortgages, buying investment properties and second mortgages. To do this, he talks with investors from across the United States to try to get the best financing options for customers.

“I apply what I know to be best for the consumer and allow them to find the most competitive rates and flexibility on products. I want to serve the local community,” he said.

Hanna also works with the Lake Oswego Police Department and other first responders to help them understand the mortgage benefits they qualify for and raises funds for nonprofit organizations.

In terms of the current market, Hanna said that people often wrongly assume what they can qualify for.

“I think they will be shocked at what they can or cannot afford. The majority of homeowners now are worried they can’t afford it when they actually can,” he said.

Hanna recommends prospective clients stop by the office so they can have an initial discussion.

“We advise people to get prepared and speak with a local trusted advisor. We also see a lot of people living paycheck to paycheck and we consult how they can save up for down payment,” Hanna said.
