Portland-based Joseph Hughes Construction (JHC), founded in 1981, announced a significant leadership transition in January. Founder Joe Hughes has taken a step back from the day-to-day management of his company and has announced the promotion of long-time employee, owner and current Vice-President Tom Rue to president. Additionally, JHC’s current chief financial officer, Taylor Schmitz, will become an owner and join Rue in Joseph Hughes Construction’s new leadership team.

Schmitz is a second-generation Lake Oswego resident active in the community with children attending the Lake Oswego School District and playing in various Lake Oswego sports programs. Schmitz’s father, Doug Schmitz, served as the Lake Oswego city manager from 1992-2007 spearheading many notable projects such as revitalizing the downtown through developments including Millennium Park and Foothills Park.
