One of Lake Oswego’s favorite local events is back for the third year in a row.

Started by the Asian American Student Union during the 2021-22 school year, the Asian Cultural Festival brings together art, food, performances and cultural experiences that are perfect for the entire Lake Oswego Community.

The festival is from 1-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 at Lake Oswego High School.

Booths from organizations like Lake Oswego Chinese Coalition, Respond to Racism, India Cultural Association and the Japanese American Museum of Oregon are open from 1-6 p.m.

Performances begin at 6 p.m. and tickets cost $5 to see captivating performances from Portland Lee’s Association Lion Dance, World Champion Taekwondo, Takohachi Drumming, Indonesian Performing Arts of Oregon and more in the LOHS auditorium.

The Asian Cultural Festival also features a Bollywood dance party and performance by DJ Prashant in the cafeteria at 4:30 p.m.

“I really want people to want to come; we’ve been promoting it across town. I just want people to enjoy themselves and have a great time,” said Malika Saha, AASU co-president.

This is the first festival after the original student founders graduated. The new generation of AASU leadership hoped to expand the festival by finding new vendors and performers to join the celebration.

“I think the Student Union is a way to foster a safe environment and somewhere that people want to or feel like they can belong at our school,” said Saha. “I hope that once we graduate it can continue and make sure that Asian students at LO have a great environment and a place where they can have fun.”

The Asian Cultural Festival is sponsored by Respond to Racism and the Chinese Friendship Association of Portland.

Tickets for the performances at 6 p.m. are available at: https://www.asianfestivallo.com/event-details/asian-cultural-festival-2024-performances.
