The Lake Oswego Reads Party, inspired by the program’s 2024 selection “Honor” by Thrity Umrigar, featured Indian food, dances and henna tattoos at the Lake Oswego Public Library Sunday, April 14.

The dances were organized by former Creative Laureate of Portland Subashini Ganesan-Forbes, while artist Pratima Dhoot provided henna tattoos and Mayurika Saxena offered Indian delicacies. The event is part of a month-long slate of activities surrounding “Honor,” which is about an American journalist who travels back to her home country of India to cover a trial involving a Hindu woman who was burned alive by her brothers for marrying a Muslim man.
