The Lake Oswego baseball team picked up a dramatic win on the road over Tigard on Friday, April 19, overcoming a 6-0 deficit to beat the Tigers 8-7 and remain tied atop the Three Rivers League standings.

Junior Rylan McClaskey stepped onto the mound as a reliever during the bottom of the first inning after the Lakers had already given up five early runs. From there, Lake Oswego slowly chipped away at its deficit, scoring four runs during the top of the fourth, then another four during the top of the sixth to ultimately steal an 8-6 lead.

In the fourth, it was senior Jonah Barkoff who tripled to left-center to score two runs, then sophomore Caden Gerritz added an RBI single, and senior Nick Vilarino brought another run around with a sacrifice bunt to cut the Tigard lead to 6-4.

Then, in the top of the sixth, senior Finley Smith reached on an error near second base to score Conor Croteau before ultimately capitalizing on a wild pitch to score himself, knotting the game at six.

From there, sophomore Carsten Lemon singled to left to score two more runs, and Lake Oswego had clawed all the way back to take its first lead of the ballgame.

Tigard ultimately responded with one run in the bottom of the sixth after sophomore Trenten Hertzog led off with a triple, but that was it as the Lakers improved to 5-1 in league play and 14-3 on the season.

Meanwhile, Tigard fell to 6-11 and 2-4.

McClaskey picked up the win on the mound for the Lakers, giving up just two runs over six and one-third innings while recording three strikeouts.

With the win, Lake Oswego remains deadlocked with West Linn atop the Three Rivers League standings. The Lions and Lakers will face off in a three-game series next week, with the first game taking place Tuesday, April 23, at West Linn High School. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
