Community members regularly ask Liz Hartman, the CEO for the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce, to host more wine walks in the community beyond the one in downtown each October.

This year, the chamber has satisfied that desire by organizing a new wine walk in Lake Grove and adding a twist.

The Oregon Wine Walk will feature exclusively Oregon wines (the downtown walk serves wines from around the world) at 21 pouring locations that will also serve snacks from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, May 11. The walk will take place along Boones Ferry Road in Lake Oswego. The chamber is limiting the event to 400 attendees with tickets available at the door as well as in advance.

Chamber economic and business research analyst Matt Evans noted that the participating wineries come from all over the state, including southern Oregon and Clackamas County.

“It’s going to be a wide variety of these wineries from around the state and a real diversity of the kinds of places where wine grapes are grown in Oregon,” Evans said, later adding: “The response from the wineries has been really gratifying. This tends to be a busy time. They are just getting rolling on their seasons as far as tasting rooms and it’s Mother’s Day weekend. We have been really gratified by the positive response.”

Further, the chamber representatives said the event is a chance to highlight businesses in Lake Grove and that many jumped at the opportunity to participate. There also will be music at two locations. Registration, which begins at 12 p.m., will be held at Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty at 15400 SW Boones Ferry Road.

Hartman also noted the wine walk is possible thanks to improvements along Boones Ferry Road ushered in by the city of Lake Oswego, which made the roadway much more walkable. The chamber will offer shuttles but encourages those who are able to walk to the various pouring locations.

“I think this is a great opportunity for Lake Oswego residents to walk and see how walkable this area is. Since the Boones Ferry Road project ended, I don’t think we’ve had an opportunity like this to feature the street and how beautiful it is,” she said.

Tickets cost $40 before May 1 and $50 after that. The chamber recommended people purchase tickets early. Tickets are available on the chamber’s website at http://www.lakeoswegochamber.com or by calling 503-636-3634.

The event was made possible in part due to a $25,000 grant from the state of Oregon through Travel Oregon.
