Longtime Lake Oswego resident Mollie Skopil hopes to make discarding used furniture less challenging and more profitable.

To do so, she and her longtime friend Michelle Baldwin started a consignment business, GoodbyHello.

Through the business, Skopil sells people’s used furniture online.

Skopil said the company takes photos of the furniture in people’s homes, posts them online and manages the process of selling the items and shipping them. They post the sales on many different sites and sift through scams so the seller doesn’t have to.

“When people get to the point where ‘I need this stuff gone’ it’s overwhelming. It’s such a hassle,” Skopil said. “We take it over so people don’t have to think about it at all.”

Skopil said it’s common for owners to not know the value of the furniture they are selling, particularly if they are managing the furniture of a family member who passed away. A family recently sold a piece for $20,000 through GoodbyHello, Skipoli said.

“They were shocked. We have a few stories like this where people don’t know what they have because it’s in the family,” she said.

Skopil also championed the purchasing of used furniture, as it is often much cheaper and still in quality condition. She also posited that the materials used for newer furniture are often lower quality than older counterparts.

Skipoli said GoodbyHello accurately describes a piece of furniture’s conditions and flaws. Many furniture pieces are available to view and purchase on the company’s website, https://goodbyhello.com/.
