Kurland is a junior on the Laker boys’ varsity track team, and Komitor is a senior on the varsity softball team.

Leading the Lakers in track and softball, athletes Baron Kurland and Lia Komitor have been named Lake Oswego High School’s Athletes of the Week for the week of May 15th.

Kurland, a junior on the boys’ varsity track team, set a personal record time of 48.79 in the 400m at the Three River League Championship, winning the race and qualifying as the #2 seed at the upcoming OSAA State Track Championship. Kurland also anchored the winning 4x400 relay and was on the winning 4x100m relay that set a meet record. “[Kurland] has developed into an outstanding sprinter,” his coach said. “He has done so by improving his workouts where he pushes new limits in practice and pulls along others on the team.”

Komitor, a senior centerfielder on the varsity softball team, has been a standout leader in batting, hitting .500 last week with 6 hits in 12 at-bats and an OBP of .625. Defensively, she consistently makes crucial plays that keep the team competitive. “[Komitor] has been a terrific leader this season. She has led by example,” her coach said. “She constantly demonstrates a level of effort which sets an example for the other players to follow.”

    Congratulations, Baron and Lia!
